A post-apocalyptic, cyberpunk themed, noir world. A place, where people's lives are worth nothing... You are Alexander M. Goodman and nothing depends on you. You are no one, a pawn in a game of chess in which the players are so far away you can't even think about them, because you don't know they exist. This is the world of Wrathchild, politically incorrect because there isn't any politics left. A world torn apart by internal struggles and forcefully brought together to ensure survival. It is a world where you are free in only one place- Anarchia. Being one of the four cities left on Earth, Anarchia is a paradise for free spirited, murderous or suicidal individuals. It is ironic that in this place we start our journey with the Pawn. Alex, as friends call him, is a Free Agent. An individual, that for the right price will do almost anything. What started out as a group of daredevils stalking the ice fields of northern Europe, the deserts of Asia, and the wastelands of Northern America they are now the sole dirty-work caste behind the Big Eleven. Maybe free once, now they are anything but that. Pawns, obeying every command, and in turn earning gratitude. This is what they have become. Maybe the time for a change has come. Maybe it has come and gone, and maybe in this world where survival is a fact of life, you need not care for mankind, but only for yourself... In order to make Wrathchild what it is, I drew inspiration from so many sources. - First thing's first, though- Blade Runner. The original idea of a mercenary, both relentles, and efficient, yet humane in his own strange way, this movie gave me a lot to take from. - Deus Ex... What can I say, this is the Blade Runner of computer gaming. The best cyberpunk game ever! I think it's needless to say that it helped me in more than one way. The atmosphere, the game play, the enemies, the story, the characters, all are in some form a tribute to Deus Ex. So if you enjoyed WC, and haven't played DE- go buy and play it, you won't regret that. - Next is System Shock 2, another absolutely great game. I must admit I was never able to play the first one, so I can only speak for the second game. From it I took mostly the atmosphere and the idea for the PDA/HUD system. However you will see this in Act II, and especially in Act III. - The Neuromancer- a great novel, that (aside from the fact that I've red it about like 10 times) really gave me food for my thoughts, for the main character. - Other places I took ideas, or liked the style are: STALKER, especially the book "Roadside Picnic" on which the game is based, for the dark and depressing atmosphere, Max Payne for the narration and again the atmosphere, Syndicate, for the design of some levels, a television show called Charlie Jade, especially in the cyberpunk universe, gave me a more modern look of what I wanted to make, and overall inspired me to start this mod. Everything I mentioned above, and many more, I respect greatly, and thank the authors for their amazing work. The last game I want to write about is Doom3. It is not cyberpunk, nor is it purely science fiction. It is however one of the best games ever and iD Software, are one of the best developers out there, so iD Software keep on doing what you do, to make us fans proud of you.
